A New Model for Oversight in the AI Era

Soniya Bopache
GM and VP of Data Compliance
As AI continues to transform how organizations work, it's also reshaping how they communicate. Tools like ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot now play a regular role in summarizing meetings, drafting messages, and influencing decisions.
For governance teams, that introduces a new layer of complexity:
Can we explain how decisions were made, and what influenced them?
This release of Arctera Insight is designed to help answer that question. It reflects our focus on helping compliance, legal, and IT teams move from passive message capture to proactive, explainable oversight.
AI Communication Is a Compliance Imperative
Many traditional compliance systems were built to store messages, not to understand how they were created. But in an environment where AI may have shaped the language, order, or even the intent behind a communication, oversight needs to evolve.
This release focuses on capturing more than just content. It captures context. That includes AI prompts, generated responses, and the platforms where those interactions happen.
The result is a clearer picture of how communication happens—and why.
Introducing the 3Cs: A New Model for Oversight
As AI becomes embedded in everyday communication, governance leaders need a way to make sense of how these tools influence decisions, content, and behavior. At Arctera, we believe that oversight in the AI era must do three things well:
- Capture
Oversight starts with visibility. Organizations need to capture not just communication outputs, but also the inputs, collaborators, and AI-generated elements behind them. That includes mobile messages, voice platforms, and generative tools like ChatGPT and Copilot. Without full-fidelity capture, there's no foundation for traceability or trust. - Chronicle
AI changes more than what’s said, it changes how things happen. Capturing that influence isn’t enough; we also need to contextualize it. Chronicling is about preserving institutional knowledge, surfacing what matters, and making information accessible and explainable across teams. It bridges the gap between raw communication and strategic understanding. - Contain
Modern oversight requires more than logs and storage. As regulations evolve, organizations must enforce policy dynamically across devices, user types, and use cases. Contain is about control: securing access, applying retention policies, and detecting risk before it becomes exposure. It’s not about restriction; it’s about resilience.
The 3Cs aren’t just a release theme. They’re a model for governing communication with the clarity, accountability, and scalability the AI era demands.
Key Additions in This Release
This release includes several updates designed to support AI oversight in practice:
- AI Assistant Oversight: Capture prompts and responses from ChatGPT and Copilot to provide full context.
- Expanded Channel Support: WhatsApp, Google Messages, Teams AV, mobile voice, and more--captured natively.
- InsightBooks: GenAI summaries of meetings, messages, and transcripts for quick comprehension and audit readiness.
- Mobile Personal Archive Access: A secure, modern interface for employees to review their archived communications, branded, compliant, and IT-light.
- Dynamic Analytics and eDiscovery: Tools to identify patterns, flag anomalies, and support defensible reviews.
What This Means for Governance Teams
The need for explainable oversight is no longer optional. It’s operational.
With growing regulatory pressure and increased scrutiny of AI systems, governance teams must be able to show not just what was said, but how it came to be said. This release enables that by offering deeper insight, wider capture, and more control. All of this is built into the platforms teams already rely on.
Looking Ahead
This release is an important step in helping organizations move toward AI governance at scale. Our goal isn’t to slow innovation. It’s to support it with the visibility, context, and control that modern compliance requires.
As AI tools continue to influence more aspects of communication and decision-making, we’ll keep building systems that help organizations manage that complexity responsibly.
If you’re thinking about where oversight goes from here, the announcement outlines how we’re approaching it.
